ManpowerGroup Deploys WatchGuard’s XTM

ManpowerGroup, the world leader in innovative workforce solutions, has deployed two of WatchGuard’s XTM 1050 appliances in high availability (HA) mode. With WatchGuard’s XTM 1050 appliance in HA mode, ManpowerGroup is able to centralize internet connectivity and its management.
ManpowerGroup required an uninterrupted connectivity across all the branches located at multiple locations. With more than 500+ employees in India spread across 13 locations, the critical challenge was to provide centralized connectivity and management from their headquarter at Gurgaon (Haryana). The bigger challenge for ManpowerGroup was to monitor employee internet usage at the branches so that bandwidth gets used only for business purposes. ManpowerGroup wanted to set up their IT security policy and ensure that it was uniformly administered across branches, which set in motion a search for the right firewall.
ManpowerGroup chose WatchGuard’s XTM 1050 in HA mode at Gurgaon in order to centralize internet connectivity and its management. With the installation of XTM 1050 appliances in HA mode, internet connectivity with the branches was established through MPLS. Bandwidth delivery from a central location led to its consolidation, resulting in 30% – 40% savings. Centralized administration ensured uniformity in application of security policies across branches. Application access improved appreciably after the XTM 1050 boxes were installed. A firewall throughput of 10 Gbps and VPN throughput of 2 Gbps made application access seamless. The GAV (Gateway Anti-Virus), IPS and application blocking features, which form a part of WatchGuard’s UTM offering, ensure that ManpowerGroup is continuously protected from various threats. Patches, updates, and new policies could be deployed from the central location. Centralized management ensured that all IT activities of employees across branches could be monitored at the click of a button and made firewall administration across multiple clients easy.

India’s Hardcopy Peripherals Market Grows Marginally in 2014Q1- IDC

Despite the slowdown in the consumer segment, a recovery in the India Hardcopy Peripherals (HCP) market was seen in 2014 Q1. The growth was primarily driven by the Government’s procurement and supported by the Medium and Large Enterprises in India.  According to the International Data Corporation (IDC), HCP market in India grew1.5% sequentially in 2014Q1 and reached 801, 000 units in terms of shipments. This was largely driven by the Government’s buying in the Laser segment, which recorded a significant sequential growth of 12.8%. But on the other hand, Inkjet segment performed weakly due to low consumer demand across all price band segments, resulting in a marginal growth of 1.5%.
Mohammed Riyaz Ahmed, Market Analyst at IDC India, says, “Excluding the Government business, the demand of Laser printer is slowing among the Medium and Large Enterprises due to the combination of national and state elections where Enterprises decided to hold their purchase till the new Government is in.However, overall business from this segment was stable due to the financial year-end purchase, where corporate would like to use up their remaining budgets. All these factors collectively led to the growth of the Laser market.”
“All the leading vendors had a bit of inventory issues earlier. But later in the second half of the quarter,a lot of new campaigns and marketing activities were seen in the Inkjet HCP* market. As a result, a recovery is expected in the next quarter with vendors targeting back to school season,” Says MohitRaizada, Senior Market Analyst, IDC India.

Microsoft brings CODESS to India

CODESS, a community for women coders established by Skype in March 2013 to explore ways to promote gender diversity in the engineering field, was brought to India today by Microsoft. Around 30 women with 2-8 years of experience in development, testing and project management from various companies attended the event at Microsoft’s development center in Bangalore.
CODESS India is one in a series of CODESS events worldwide. For a long time, engineering has been perceived as a male dominated industry, with women active in these areas often treated as exceptions. Things are slowly changing, with more and more women now choosing careers in engineering. The mission of CODESS is to provide a platform for women coders to  share personal and professional experiences, network, and learn from one another. The CODESS team delivers events and workshops for female software engineers from academia all the way through to the executive level. With previous events across Eastern and Western Europe, Asia and the US, CODESS is now making its way across the different engineering communities throughout the world, and its first India stop was at Bangalore today.
Themed The Future of Work and Play, CODESS India, which was organized by WinSpire, the women’s networking team at Microsoft India Development Centerin Bangalore, provided the attendees the opportunity to learn about future technology trends from Microsoft leaders and external speakers, attend a special session on game development conducted by a Microsoft team from the UK and watch some cool demos. The by-invitation only event, which started at 11amand closed at 4pm today, also gave the attendees the opportunity to meet experienced and like-minded female engineers from within the software industry.
“At Microsoft, diversity is at the core of our culture. Emphasis on diversity and inclusion enables us to build a workforce and create a work environment that fosters talent and creativity and welcomes different experiences, perspectives, and capabilities. Elaborating on CODESS, Manocha said: “CODESS is unique in that it focuses only on women coders. The objective is to create a forum for these women that provides them with mentoring, networking and any other support they need to further their technical careers. We want everyone to feel like they can reach out and have a candid conversation with other women in technology who may have interesting perspectives based on their experience. I am extremely fortunate to be here today, at the first ever CODESS event here today.”
In her session titled Reflections, Kalpana Margabandhu, Director, India CIO Lab and BT/IT Location Executive, IBM India, shared some learnings from her 32-year technology career. She stressed the importance of personal integrity and the ability to decide early on in life what is important to a woman, so that she canmake appropriate choices and pace her career accordingly. Self-awareness and constant learning from experiences help a person grow in her desired direction, she said. Kalpana believes events like Codess are very important for women to be able to discuss, talk about their unique challenges and find solutions. Even in the case of innovation, there is always this inherent fear of not knowing what to do but when paired with someone else, increased confidence can help you do a much better job, she said.
Sharing her own learnings, Pragati Ogal Rai, Chief Technology Evangelist, Paypal, said that women must learn to be assertive and ask for what they want, as leadership appreciates and respects people who know what they want and have the confidence to ask for it. Open and direct communication is the right way to do this, she said. She also stressed the importance of being open to change and trying out new ideas as a woman progresses in her career.

The IK10 vandal resistant, day/night network camera is designed for indoor as well as outdoor use. Examples of suitable installations are inside or outside hotels, boutiques, restaurants and offices.

MSI's announces their New Intel 9 Series Chipset

At a special event in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, MSI Senior Vice-President, Henry Lu, informed the press present that 2013 was MSI’s best year since 2008. Furthermore, in Q1 2014, MSI actually managed to double its profits year on year. This is certainly impressive news considering the general state of the affairs with regards to the PC market. 
 
At an event that's being held in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, MSI introduced us to their latest products, beginning with a speech from Henry Lu, Senior Vice President and Founder of MSI. In his opening speech, Lu said that 2013 was a great year for MSI, but 2014 would be an even better year, thanks to their clear motherboard classification and their strong gaming notebook lineup

To better explain MSI’s products, several other individuals were invited to the stage, including Tim Lee, SEA/MEA Component Sales Director, Maxine Chang, Motherboard Product Manager. Vincent Hou, Graphics Cards Product Manager & Austin Yang, Barebone Product Marketing.
 
Lee explained more about the company’s GAMING series of motherboards while Chang spoke about the overclocking and mainstream motherboards.
If you’re unfamiliar with MSI products, their GAMING products have a red color scheme, while their overclocking and mainstream motherboards are yellow and blue respectively.
According to Lee, the GAMING series sports a number of improvements. The first is in terms of aesthetics, where the heatsinks and general design of the board have been given a more aggressive look. Secondly, he reinforced the fact that even the most affordable MSI GAMING motherboard offers features like the Killer network controllers and powerful audio technology like Audio Boost II. One of the more exciting features found on select MSI GAMING motherboards is the availability of an onboard Digital-to-Analog Conveter (DAC). Called the Xtreme Audio DAC, this technology makes use of the C-Media CM6631 HD audio processor, which helps to significantly improve the audio quality, regardless if it’s in games, movies or music.
 
In case you aren’t familiar with MSI’s segmentation, their products are divided into three distinct categories: overclocking (in yellow), gaming (in red) and classic or mainstream (in blue). 
 

Some of the Interesting features were showcased. Guard Pro, which is a new feature that helps to increase the overall stability of the motherboard by offering a unique type of circuit protection – when it detects the CPU running close to 100 degrees Celsius, the motherboard automatically reduces the frequency of the CPU to avoid shutting down. There’s also a new feature called USB Steel Power, which ensures that the motherboard supplies a steady stream of voltage to the USB ports. This feature is incredibly important for bitminers who constantly plug in USB drives to transfer and/or store this virtual currency.M.2 and SATA Express ports were also seen on a few yellow boards and so was the Xtreme Audio DAC powered by the C-Media CM 6631 HD Audio Processor. Even in the Graphic card  there was latest developments. Re-introducing the MSI Gaming App, which helps users to easily set the card in OC mode, Gaming mode and Silent mode. The more interesting bit that was showcased today though, was the RADAX Fan technology, which is already implemented in cards like the MSI R9 270X Gaming 2GB ITX
And now we come to the Nightblade – a barebones PC aimed at DIY gamers.
MSI Nightblade – a barebone PC that comes in several SKUs. The Nightblade has a mini-ITX form factor, but it supports full-sized, high-end graphics cards like those based on the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti and AMD Radeon HD 290X.
To prove that it is well built , a model was asked to stand on it.Currently, there are Z87, B85 and Z97 variants of this barebone PC on the market.
 
 
If there is one segment of the PC enthusiast market that MSI hasn’t forgotten about, it’s definitely the overclocking crowd. Besides launching a series of motherboards for the Z97 platform, MSI has also added a number of features to make overclocking a lot simpler, regardless if you’re a newbie or a seasoned veteran. MSI has always cited support of overclocking as one of its core principles, and this is one of the reasons why it has so much support in the enthusiast community.

In a recent 2013 study conducted in the Philippines by VMWare, it shows how BYOD has been picking up and being embraced by workers in the country. According to the study, about 81% of the workers own two or more mobile devices; while 85% of them actually bring these devices to their work place. The study also revealed that BYOD has actually made it more efficient for workers to work out of the office; that they are able to respond faster to change; and have made workers less stressful.

In the first quarter of 2014 spammers started imitating messages from mobile applications. They especially like the popular mobile messengers WhatsApp, Viber and Google Hangouts: notifications purportedly sent from these applications were used to spread both malware and harmless adverts. The rising popularity of mobile devices means that phishing attacks targeting Apple IDs are becoming more frequent.
Many gadget owners are used both to synchronization of their contacts and to the fact that messages from mobile applications can arrive via email, so few would be suspicious of the fact that WhatsApp is not directly linked to an email service. This lack of caution could prove costly, since the attached archive contained the notorious Backdoor.Win32.Androm.bjkd, whose main function is to steal personal data from users.

Ninety percent of all passwords are vulnerable to being hacked.1 In the wake of recent high-profile data breaches, it is important now more than ever for consumers to be vigilant about strengthening and changing their passwords to protect their personal information. Last year, more than 170 organizations supported World Password Day by sharing password safety messages. WD Partners with National Association for the Blind

WD partnered with the National Association For The Blind (NAB) in India to provide Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) to visually challenged children. The project, spread across 2 months and supporting about 60 children of the 5-18 age group of, was implemented at the NAB institution where students with visual and hearing challenges along with their supervisors were introduced to DMT.
“WD is proud and honored to work with the The National Association For The Blind. The NAB has been instrumental in empowering the visually challenged population of India since 1952,” said Subroto Das, Director – India & South Asia, WD. “We look forward to studying the progress and impact of this noble project.”
DMT has demonstrated potential in developing expression and in channeling physical energy, and has proven therapeutic for children with visual and hearing challenges.
