Government Should Protect and Nurture SME Manufacturers in India: MAIT

IT SMEs have a crucial part to play towards realizing the new Government’s objective of making India a manufacturing hub. The Government is going all out to assist SMEs who wants to set up manufacturing facilities in India. With an aim to create awareness among SMEs about the various initiatives, policies and schemes by the government, MAIT, the apex body representing India’s IT hardware, training and R&D services sectors, in association with the Ministry of Communication & Information Technology and Ministry of MSME organized “MAIT ICT SME Conclave – 2014” in Noida.
MAIT SME Conclave offers a single window for all the MSMEs to connect with each other and various government bodies, thereby highlight their key issues related to the policy framework, funding etc and get a better understanding of various schemes and opportunities on offer that can be utilized for the benefit of the industry. It aimed to equip the SMEs to prepare themselves thoroughly for evaluating the business opportunities and take necessary actions in developing their enterprises with the help of IT to achieve business goals. Ravi Shankar Prasad unveils dot Bharat domain name

The National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) has announced that .IN Registry has launched the Bharat domain name (Bharat written in Devanagari script). It was launched by Minister for Communications and Information and Law and Justice, Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad at a function held here.
Speaking at the function the minister said, most of the future expansion of the internet is going to come from Asia, Africa and the developing world. Local languages, content and culture will increasingly become important themes for the future expansion of the internet, he said, while adding that Mobile devices and applications as well as social media will be important determinants of this growth.
The minister said that e-commerce is going to bring in revolutionary changes in the economic activities of rural India. It will not only generate new jobs but also create large number of business opportunities for all sections of populations in rural India.
He said Digital India project aiming to offer a one-stop shop for government services and would use the mobile phone as the backbone of its delivery mechanism. Digital India promises to transform India into a connected knowledge economy offering world-class services at the click of a mouse and will be implemented in a phased manner.
The government’s Rs 1.13 lakh crore initiative would also attract investment in electronics manufacturing, create millions of jobs and support trade, the minister said. The plans to digitally connect the entire country will be supported by 20- and 40-hour modules on digital literacy in regional languages, which the government plans to run over the next few years. The government is bringing the open access to “broadband highways” across cities, towns and villages would also give a fillip to trade across the country.
The minister unveiled the portal containing a few . Bharat based popular domain names by cutting the ribbon electronically through the computer mouse.
Since the same . Bharat ccTLD is shared by other Indian languages such as Boro, Dogri, Konkani, Maithili, Marathi, Nepali and Sindhi-Devanagari, the end user can now get domain names in these languages apart from Hindi. The sunrise period for the same has commenced from August 15, 2014.
This is soon to be followed in the coming months by similar launches in regional languages such as Tamil, Gujarati, Punjabi, Urdu, Telugu and Bangala etc.
NIXI has been spearheading the goal of multilingual Internet and to this end NIXI has collaborated with Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) in setting up of an expert team on Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs).This is expected to enhance the reach and relevance of Internet for remote and far flung villages, further bridging the digital divide.

IDC has just released its Q2 PC report showing that HP has taken the PC leadership position with 29.5% market share. With growth in both the consumer PC and commercial PC segments, HP has been recognised for its price competitiveness and well spread partner coverage across the country.

According to IDC, the commercial PC segment emerged stronger against expected performance with 1.38 million units shipped in Q2 2014 with a quarter-on-quarter growth of 34.5% over Q1 2014. A clear mandate in elections signalled a mark of recovery in the economy. Against last calendar year, business prospects are expected to remain moderately better in the coming six months.
“The Overall consumer PC market recorded 1.16 million units, a quarter-on-quarter growth of 12.8% over Q1 2014. “The overall sentiments have picked up and IDC observes improved discretionary spending from consumers across devices. It is expected to have a positive influence on the market as we enter the festival season starting Onam,” comments Manish Yadav, Market Analyst, Client Devices, IDC India. The retail and online acceptance of new product category such as Bing SKU facilitated growth this quarter.

BenQ is once again rated as the No.1 player in the Indian Projector Market with 25 % market share in Q2 FY14 as per a report released by world’s top rated specialist research and consulting firm Futuresource Consulting.  BenQ has grown its market share by 5 % in comparison to last year’s market share of 20% in Q2 2014.
The projector category remains crowded with 15 brands accounting for 95% of all sales made. In such a cluttered market BenQ has increased 35%  in projector volume YoY for Q2, 2014 and BenQ has increased its stretch its lead over its rival where in the second placed brand has 10% lower market share than BenQ. As per the report the India digital projector market has almost remained flat.

CDAN (Computers Dealer Association of Nellore) completed its 1000 days and that was the celebration day on 17th August 2014 when the dealers of Nellore came together at Hotel Yeshpark to celebrate 1000 days of unity. The morning event addressed a gathering of 150 members comprising of local dealers/service engineers/tot dealers, president/secretary of  nearby district associations and sponsors. Dell announced that the company has been positioned in the Leaders quadrant of the 2014 Magic Quadrant for Unified Threat Management by Gartner, Inc.
